[플레이뉴스 문성식기자] 노블레스 컬렉션과 두아르트 스퀘이라는 포루투갈 작가인 리카르도 파사포르트(b.1987)의 첫 한국 개인전을 선보인다. 이번 전시는 두 공간의 협업을 통해 Start normalizing whatever this is와 Nostalgic for something that never happened라는 두개의 부제 아래 각 갤러리 공간에서 두 파트로 나뉘어 전시된다.
리카르도 파사포르트는 고유의 작품 세계를 통해 대량생산품과 예술 창작의 본질, 그 대조적 관계의 독특한 간극에 대해 질문해왔다. 어린 시절 한때 그라피티 활동에 집중한 작가는 아크릴물감과 에어스프레이를 주로 사용하는데, 그의 작품에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 대상의 흐릿한 표현법은 독특하고 몽환적인 오라를 조성한다.
작가는 이미지의 상징적 본질을 인간의 경험에 대한 은유로 나타낸다. 일상적 물건, 광고 또는 인기 있는 이미지에서 영감을 얻어 캔버스에 그린 작품은 전통적 페인팅의 가치에 도전하면서도 그만의 독특한 표현 기법을 통해 새로운 시각을 제시한다.
일상을 대변하는 디지털 이미지로 가득한 세상에서 그의 그림은 일상과 그 안에서 펼쳐지는 불합리에 대해 심층적으로 탐구한다.
이번 서울 전시에서 작가는 향수를 불러일으키는 어린 시절 경험을 기반으로 개인적 서사를 담은 작품을 선보인다. 그의 성장 과정 중 한 인간 그리고 작가로서 정체성을 형성하는 데 영향을 미친 경험을 친밀하게 엿볼 수 있는 순간을 캔버스에 담았다.
작가는 부모 세대가 공부한 포르투갈 학교 교과서에서 본 이미지부터 1990년대 리스본 문화 속에서 자란 경험에 이르기까지 자신에게 영향을 미친 다양한 기억 속 순간을 그림에 표현해낸다.
Noblesse Collection and Duarte Sequeira are excited to present Portuguese artist Ricardo Passaporte's first exhibition in Seoul. This presentation is organized in two parts under the subtitle 'Start normalizing whatever this is' and 'Nostalgic for something that never happened' in collaboration with Noblesse Collection curated by Duarte Sequeira.
Passaporte's artistic practice questions the nature of creation and contrasts between mass-produced and unique art. Using acrylic and spray paint, his distinct blurring style creates a dream-like aura, exploring the symbolic nature of imagery as a metaphor for the human experience. Drawing inspiration from everyday objects, advertising, branding, and popular imagery, his works challenge traditional artistic values and play with the codes of painting. In a saturated digital world filled with the mundane, Passaporte's paintings delve into daily life and the absurd.
The exhibition presents a series of paintings weaving the artist´s personal history with nostalgic childhood images. Each work offers an intimate glimpse into his memories and experiences that have shaped his upbringing and artistic practice, while encouraging a moment of reflection. These sources range from imagery found in old Portuguese school manuals to reflections on growing up in the culture of 1990s Lisbon
About the Artist
리카르도 파사포르트(b.1987, Lisbon, Portugal)는 리스본에 거주하며 활동 중이다. Universidade da Beira Interior, Covilhã에서 패션 디자인을 전공했고 Stolen Books Publications의 German Gang 카탈로그를 다수 작업했다. 그의 작품은 Câmara Municipal do Porto, Porto; L21, Palma de Mallorca; Steve Turner, LA; Mamoth, London; Michael Horbach Foundation, Cologne; Vestjyllands Kunstpavillion, Videbæk; Huset for Kunst og Design, Holstebro; Ruttkowski;68, Paris; Eduardo Secci, Florence; Annarumma, Naples; and Museu do Côa, Vila Nova de Foz Côa에 전시된 적이 있다.
Ricardo Passaporte (b. 1987, Lisbon, Portugal) lives and works in Lisbon. He is a graduate of Universidade da Beira Interior, Covilhã, where he studied Fashion Design. Passaporte has curated and published several catalogues with Germes Gang and Stolen Books Publications.
His work has been presented at Câmara Municipal do Porto, Porto; L21, Palma de Mallorca; Steve Turner, LA; Mamoth, London; Michael Horbach Foundation, Cologne; Vestjyllands Kunstpavillion, Videbæk; Huset for Kunst og Design, Holstebro; Ruttkowski68, Paris; Eduardo Secci, Florence; Annarumma, Naples; and Museu do Côa, Vila Nova de Foz Coa.
